We projects on a building erected in the 1950's, with the earlier classic "pavilion" typology. The two storey building occupies a large site originally assigned in the first urban development of the town of Ávila.
The extension continues the scheme of the original layout, which coincidently has a great resemblance with some actual trends of hospital architecture. We design two new pavilions for patient's wards attached to the existing main circulation corridor, creating a new parallel internal corridor with vertical circulation shafts.
The internal refurbishment affects the entire complex, renovating the external walls maintaining it's austere and sober character.
From the medical point of view, this hospital completes the Health Map of Ávila with services not covered by Hospital Vírgen de Sonsoles, such as Psychiatry, Mid-Term Stay Medical Ward, Palliative Care, Physiotherapy, etc.
